Casa Ofelia "I Am Water"

During the pandemic I was approached by Casa Ofelia. They were remodeling a 1940´s property at the heart of one of México´s city most exclusive neighborhoods, and transforming it into one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in the area. The interior design team already had a very specific design, but regarding art, they needed something to match their proposed vision. They asked me if I could present a project with my images that could blend and integrate with their unique style. I loved the idea; it was certainly a new challenge that needed me to step out of my comfort zone and open my creativity into new horizons. In the underwater photography world, I am not aware of any image that comes even close to this style.  This is how this project, entitled: “I am water” was born.

My passion goes beyond just the artistic side of a photograph, I am more interested in using my photography to bring hope to people and benefit the Ocean, the Planet and all its living beings by creating awareness to the dire problems of today´s world through beauty, a universal language. I do my best every day to be conscious and responsible of my own consumption and actions. Traveling and diving has definitely an impact on the environment, and if not done respectfully can stress the animals too, so I created this new series repurposing unfeatured images from previous trips. This approach gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into the ever-changing nature of our perceptions, and through a new vision, explore the meaning of the reality of the interconnectedness and interdependence we all share in this planet as a way to spark a shift in our consciousness that can lead us to more positive actions towards us and everything around us, and a more loving and caring character towards all other forms of life.

Artist Gabriela Reyes Fuchs commented on this series:

“Once again Vizl surprises us with dreamy, breathtaking images, this time in sepia tones, floating over to the abstract side, a style never seen before balancing contemporary photography as master abstractions of water, the underwater world and his heart's most eager passion; the conservation of the Ocean.

In this series Christian wonders what would the voice of Water be? how would it sound? what would it like to say?  exploring this idea in this new series entitled “I am Water” he beautifully invites us to blur the perception of self, only to play with the idea of being part of everything and everyone just like the very nature of water.”
